5th Grade Information

All 5th Grade Parents, please visit this page for up-to-date information regarding all 5th Grade student activities, Middle School Open Houses and Registration.

  • Families are eligible to apply to any NYC public middle school.
    • Zoned schools will continue to prioritize zoned students. 
    • Most schools will prioritize students and residents of their district. (If your school was previously open only to the district, you will have a district priority). 
    • This means your school is welcome to recruit any NYC student interested in applying to you. 
    • Seat targets will not change because of this policy. 
  • Families may list any number of choices on their application.
    • The number of choices is no longer capped at twelve. 
    • Most families will list fewer than twelve choices, but if any family is interested in more than twelve they can add the additional choices to their application.
  • Families will be advised that a strong application includes:
    • programs in the district(s) where your child lives or goes to school. 
    • programs with an average level of demand (1-2 applicants per seat).
