Any of these pages would be nice to work on with your child and for you to hold on to as a keepsake. I put several to choose from, some have writing, some drawing, and I also put a link with Father's Day craft if you want to take a look and make a craft together. I wish I could have had the children make you something special but working on any of these with them is also special.

Informational writing is our first writing assignment and task.

Your child will need to write 3 facts they learned from a non-fiction book they have read.

At least one fact will be written on each page. If they want to write more than one sentence on each page that is fine too.

They will need to complete the writing with me during the time they are meeting with me not with someone at home. If they ask you to spell a word encourage them to use the book you printed for them, their sight word flash cards and the letter sounds when writing the sentence on each page. Like I always tell them "a good writer uses as many letters sounds as they can hear" It is ok if it is not spelled entirely correct since they are to rely on letter sounds to form the words for now.

In the classroom I would have spent 2-3 days on this working a page or 2 each day. It may take your child more that one day this week but it should be completed by this Friday.
We are working on drawing detailed (3 or 4 star) pictures (see chart below) I explained to the children that I should be able to tell the habitat of the animal or setting from their picture. We are also working on writing a complete sentence and being able to read back their own writing.

Once they complete all three pages (one fact on each page) submit the writing piece on here. You can take a photo of all 3 pages together and upload them that way instead of 3 individual if you like.

Have your child read each page of their writing to someone at home and they should point to each word in the sentence they wrote as they read it.

This week when I meet with each small group we will be working on their first writing assignment and task. They will need to write 3 facts they learned from a non-fiction book they have read.
One fact will be written on each page.
They will need to complete the writing with me during the time they are meeting with me not with someone at home.

Please have your child look at any of the mini books I have posted that you can print out or perhaps they have their own non-fiction book at home that they want to use. They should read the book they choose with someone at home before they meet with me so that they can tell me about it.
If you cannot print the book and put it together for your child I am posting a few links to online books at scholastic they can use but if they use one of those they will need to come to the group prepared to tell us 3 facts they learned from it. If they would like to, they may also use the book A Zebra's World from last week

You will need to print out the writing paper your child wishes to use as well.
I am posting a few to choose from. Once they choose the writing paper with you they will need a total of 3 pages printed out so that they can bring it to our reading/writing group next week.
